Derbyniodd rhai o brentisiaid diweddaraf Cymru ym maes technoleg tyrbinau gwynt eu tystysgrifau'n ddiweddar, ar ôl cwblhau'n llwyddiannus flwyddyn gyntaf eu hyfforddiant yn yr unig Ganolfan Hyfforddi ym maes Tyrbinau Gwynt yng Nghymru, sydd wedi'i lleoli ar gampws Coleg Llandrillo yn Llandrillo-yn-Rhos.

Cwblhaodd y myfyrwyr o Grŵp Llandrillo Menai ran academaidd eu rhaglen brentisiaeth dair blynedd yr haf diwethaf cyn ennill profiad ymarferol ar dyrbinau gwynt ar y môr – ffynhonnell fwyaf Cymru o ynni adnewyddadwy - gan weithio gyda'u darpar gyflogwyr mewn dau leoliad gwahanol. Rhaid oedd gohirio'r seremoni gyflwyno am chwe mis oherwydd Covid-19.

Yn 2020/2021, croesawodd y ganolfan hyfforddi wyth prentis o gwmni RWE Renewables: pedwar sydd wedi'u lleoli yn Triton Knoll yn Swydd Lincoln a phedwar o Fae Lerpwl. Wedi blwyddyn yn unig, maent wedi ennill Diploma Atodol Lefel 3 BTEC mewn Peirianneg a chymhwyster NVQ Lefel 2 C&G mewn Gwneud Gwaith Peirianneg.

Hanner ffordd drwy eu hail flwyddyn, maent yn awr yn dilyn cwrs Diploma C&G mewn Cynnal a Chadw Tyrbinau Gwynt (Gwybodaeth Dechnegol) ac yn ychwanegu unedau i'r cymhwyster NVQ Lefel 2.

Yn dilyn llwyddiant y rhaglen brentisiaeth yn y coleg, y llynedd cyhoeddodd RWE Renewables y byddai 12 prentis arall o bob cwr o'r DU yn dechrau eu hyfforddiant yn y coleg.

Gan siarad yn y seremoni gyflwyno'r wythnos diwethaf, dywedodd rheolwr prentisiaethau RWE yn y DU, Craig O’Malley: “Mae cwblhau'r Fframwaith Lefel 2 yn garreg filltir bwysig yn natblygiad y prentisiaid. Mae'n wych eu gweld yn gwneud cynnydd da yng Ngholeg Llandrillo, ac rydw i'n falch o gael y cyfle i gydnabod eu llwyddiant yn y seremoni heddiw.

"Rydw i'n edrych ymlaen at ddilyn eu gyrfaoedd dros y blynyddoedd nesaf wrth iddyn nhw sefydlu eu hunain fel technegwyr medrus ar ffermydd gwynt presennol RWE ac ar y rhai rydym wrthi'n eu datblygu."

Meddai hyfforddwr ac aseswr Coleg Llandrillo ym maes Tyrbinau Gwynt, Marc McDonough: "Rydym yn falch iawn o gael parhau i weithio mewn partneriaeth â RWE Renewables i hyfforddi pobl ifanc ar gyfer y diwydiant ynni adnewyddadwy hwn sy'n prysur dyfu. Mae gennym raglen brentisiaeth lwyddiannus ar gyfer ynni hydro, ynni gwynt ar y môr ac ynni gwynt ar y tir ac edrychwn ymlaen at weithio gyda RWE Renewables am lawer o flynyddoedd eto."

Dechreuodd y grŵp cyntaf o dechnegwyr dan hyfforddiant ym maes tyrbinau gwynt - a ddewiswyd o blith dros 660 ymgeisydd yn dilyn proses ddethol drwyadl a barodd sawl mis - eu hyfforddiant ar gampws Llandrillo-yn-Rhos ym mis Medi 2012.

The Grŵp Llandrillo Menai students completed the academic part of their three-year Wind Turbine Apprenticeship Programme (Level 2 framework) before cutting their teeth on offshore wind turbines - Wales’ biggest renewable energy source – last summer, working with their prospective employers at two different locations. The awards ceremony had to be delayed by six months due to Covid-19.

During 2020/2021, the training centre hosted eight RWE Renewables’ apprentices: four based at Triton Knoll in Lincolnshire and four from Liverpool Bay. After only one year, they attained a BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Engineering and a C&G NVQ Level 2 in Performing Engineering Operations.

Midway through their second year, they are now undertaking a C&G Diploma in Wind Turbine Maintenance (Technical Knowledge) and additional units to the NVQ Level 2.

Due to the success of the college’s award-winning apprenticeship programme, last summer RWE Renewables announced that 12 more of its apprentices from across the UK would be starting their training at the college.

Speaking at last week’s presentation ceremony, RWE’s UK apprenticeship manager Craig O’Malley, said: “The completion of the Level 2 framework marks a key milestone in the development of the apprentices. It’s great to see them progressing well at Coleg Llandrillo, and I’m glad that we get a chance to recognise their achievements with the presentation today.

“I’m looking forward to following their careers over the next few years as they establish themselves as highly-skilled, wind turbine technicians, working on RWE’s existing wind farms, as well as those currently in development.”

Coleg Llandrillo’s Wind Turbine trainer & assessor Mark McDonough said: “We are very pleased to continue working in partnership with RWE Renewables to train young persons for the ever-growing renewable power industry. We have a proven successful apprenticeship programme for hydro, offshore, and onshore wind power and look forward to many more years working with RWE Renewables.”

The first ever cohort of trainee wind turbine technicians - who were selected out of over 660 applicants after a rigorous selection process taking many months - started their training at Coleg Llandrillo’s Rhos-on-Sea campus in September 2012.
