Myfyriwr Peirianneg Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor yn cipio gwobr prentisiaeth genedlaethol

Mae’r coleg yn hynod o falch o gyhoeddi bod Laurie Zehetmayr, myfyriwr yn adran peirianneg yn Nolgellau wedi cipio’r wobr “Dyfarniad Prentis Myfyriwr sydd wedi Gwella Fwyaf” gan y Sefydliad Peirianwyr Mecanyddol yn ddiweddar.

Mae Sefydliad y Peirianwyr Mecanyddol yn darparu cyfleoedd dysgu gydol oes ar gyfer ein 115,000 o aelodau, a bydd llawer ohonynt yn cyflawni statws cofrestredig proffesiynol.

Rhoddwyd enw Laurie ymlaen ar gyfer y wobr hon oherwydd yr holl waith caled y mae wedi’i gyflawni tra yma yn y coleg yn Nolgellau.

Cwblhaodd Laurie y cymhwyster PEO L2 ac yna symudodd ymlaen i Dystysgrif Mec Tec L3 a phasiodd y saith uned gyda Rhagoriaeth glir.

Dywedodd Marius Jones - RhMRh Adeiladwaith a Pheirianneg - Dolgellau a Pwllheli

“Mae Laurie yn enghraifft wych o'r hyn y gall merched ei gyflawni yn y byd Peirianneg. Mae Laurie yn cael ei chyflogi yn Rheilffordd Ffestiniog ac mae'n debyg y bydd yn symud ymlaen i bethau uwch yn y dyfodol. Gweithiodd Laurie yn galed iawn yn ystod y pandemig Covid a mynychodd yr holl sesiynau ar-lein yn ystod yr amser caled hwn. Dyma pam rydyn ni'n teimlo bod Laurie yn haeddu'r wobr hon.”

Wrth astudio yn y coleg, mi roedd Laurie yn gweithio fel peiriannydd mecanyddol i gwmni Rheilffordd Ffestiniog. Rheilffordd Ffestiniog yw rheilffordd gul hynaf y byd gyda bron i 200 mlynedd o hanes, Mae Rheilffordd Ffestiniog a’i seilwaith bellach yn rhan annatod o Safle Treftadaeth y Byd “Tirwedd Llechi Gogledd Cymru” UNESCO.

Laurie Zehetmayr, who studied Engineering at the college’s Dolgellau campus, recently won the ‘Most Improved Student Apprentice’ award from Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).

The Institution provides lifelong learning opportunities for its 115,000 members, many of whom will achieve professional registered status.

Laurie's name was put forward for this award because of her academic excellence. She completed the PEO L2 qualification, before progressing on to the Mec Tec L3 Certificate…passing all seven units with clear Distinctions!

Marius Jones, programme area manager for Construction and Engineering at the college’s Dolgellau and Pwllheli campuses, said: “Laurie is a great example of what women can achieve in the world of engineering. Laurie is employed at Ffestiniog Railway as a mechanical engineer and staff are confident that she will move on to higher things in the future.”

The Ffestiniog Railway is the world's oldest narrow-gauge railway with almost 200 years of history. The Ffestiniog Railway and its infrastructure are now an integral part of the UNESCO "North Wales Slate Landscape" World Heritage Site.
