Dathlu Traddodiadau Calan Gaeaf Cymru trwy gelf.
Fel rhan o raglen deledu newydd sy'n dathlu ac yn edrych i mewn i draddodiadau gwerin Cymru, ymwelodd y cwmni cynhyrchu Capten Jac â'r adran gelf yng Ngholeg Meirion-Dwyfor Pwllheli yn ddiweddar i ffilmio'r myfyrwyr yn yr adran sydd wedi bod yn gweithio gyda'u tiwtor celf, Ffion Gwyn, ar hen arferion Calan Gaeaf Cymru.
Cafodd y canwr, actor a chyflwynydd teledu adnabyddus Carys Eleri, a fydd yn arwain y cynhyrchiad newydd, gyfle i gwrdd â rhai o'r myfyrwyr, sydd wedi bod yn gweithio ar y prosiect.
Dywedodd Ffion Gwyn, tiwtor yn yr Adran Gelf yn CMD, Pwllheli -
“Mae cadw cof am hen draddodiadau gwerin Cymru yn bwysig iawn. Mae rhai o'r straeon a'r arferion wedi cael eu trosglwyddo trwy'r cenedlaethau ers canrifoedd. Mae gan gelf y gallu i gyfleu'r arferion a'r straeon hyn mewn ffordd weledol. Fel rhan o’r prosiect mae’r myfyrwyr wedi creu pen mawr o’r Hwch Ddu Gwta, anifail tebyg i fochyn oedd yn stelcio tirwedd Cymru yn ystod Calan Gaeaf er mwyn bwyta eneidiau’r ifanc. ”

Bydd y rhaglen hefyd yn cynnwys rhai o brif awdurdodau Cymru ar hanes a thraddodiadau gwerin Cymru, a fydd yn cael eu darlledu’n fuan ar y S4C.

Well-known singer, actor and TV presenter Carys Eleri - who will be heading the new production – along with employees from the production company Capten Jac, visited the college’s Pwllheli campus to meet and film the students who have been working on the project with their art tutor Ffion Gwyn.
Ffion said: “Keeping alive the folk memory of old Halloween customs - or Calan Gaeaf in Welsh - is really important. Some of the stories and customs have been passed down through the generations for centuries. Art has the ability to convey these customs and stories in a visual and visceral way.
“As part of the project the students have created a large head of a Hwch Ddu Gwta, an old Welsh pig-like creature, who stalked the Welsh landscape during Calan Gaeaf looking to devour the souls of the young. These kinds of stories are great to work on alongside our students, as Halloween in essence is a festival for the younger generation.”
The programme will also include some of Wales’s leading authorities on the history and folk traditions of Wales, and will be broadcast soon on the Welsh language TV channel S4C.
