Currently, around 1,200 higher education students are studying on 50 different degree courses across its three colleges: Coleg Llandrillo, Coleg Menai and Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor.

Most of the degree courses are offered at the multimillion-pound University Centre in Rhos-on-Sea, with some programmes also available at the Bangor, Llangefni and Dolgellau campuses. The Grŵp’s local provision means that you can study for a degree on your doorstep, saving thousands of pounds and negating the reason to move away to university.

Many of the courses are developed in consultation with employers, to equip learners with the skills and knowledge that employers require and to make the progression into employment easier. Often, the full-time courses are delivered over two days per week, helping learners fit their studies around work and family commitments.

One sector which is currently flourishing is Computing and Media.

IT industries are on the up: UK technology workers’ average salary increased by 13% in 2019 to reach around £74,000 a year. The UK also recorded the highest salary rise worldwide for technology workers in 2019, outstripping other tech hotspots such as San Francisco and New York.

There is a wide range of industry-standard hardware and software available for students and an enviable range of university-level courses on offer, including full honours degrees in Computing (Networking), Computing (Software Development), 3D Animation and Games Development and Creative and Broadcast Media…to name but a few.

The Computing and Media department has also secured partnerships with some of the world's most successful electronics and gaming brands. It has been registered as both Xbox and Nintendo developers, which is a possible first for any college or university in the UK! It is also part of Sony Interactive Entertainment's global academic programme - PlayStation®First.

The Grŵp also recently launching its brand new, £120,000, state-of-the-art Virtual Reality Suite at the college’s Rhos-on-Sea campus.

Michael Kitchin, a former foundation degree Broadcast Media Production student, utilised the skills he learned at college to forge an exciting career within the entertainment industry, working on some of the world's most popular television series: from US-smash 'Carpool Karaoke' with James Corden, through 'Top Gear', to 'Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway'!

Kate Feliciello, programme area manager for Computing & Media said: “Currently, a job role within Computing and Media is one of the most highly sought-after careers. At Grŵp Llandrillo Menai, we have the tools and resources needed to get you your dream job. Experience a range of technology in our Internet of Things lab and new VR suite which includes a range of VR and AR technologies.”
