College's A-level Students Inspired by Former First Minister
Law, Government and Politics A-level students recently had the opportunity glean information from a legal and political giant in a recent online session.
Former First Minister Carwyn Jones spoke openly about his time as a barrister, a politician, and a teacher to Grŵp Llandrillo Menai’s distance learning students.
The distance learning course is offered as part of Sgiliaith's provision within the college group in order to expand the curricular provision offered in Welsh, or bilingually, with innovative teaching methods.
Rebecca Ephraim, A-level Law lecturer at Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor’s Dolgellau campus said: "Getting the opportunity to listen and chat with a person who has played a central role in the constitutional life of Wales during the last quarter of a century was truly invaluable to our students.
“We discussed how to speak in public, the importance of case law, and in particular, his thoughts about the differences between the Welsh Government's and the British Government's response to Covid-19. His advice to the students was priceless."

Carwyn trained as a barrister at the London Assize Halls Law School and was called to the Bar at Gray's Inn in 1989. He began his practice as a barrister and was in legal practice for 10 years in Gower Chambers, Swansea. For two years, Carwyn also worked as a professional tutor at Cardiff University on the Bar Vocational Course. He was first elected to the Assembly in May 1999. Ten years later, he became prime minister and leader of the Welsh Labour Party.
