College Transport Arrangements from September 2020
FAQs
- Will I have to wear a
mask whilst travelling on college transport?
Learners using college transport must wear a face covering.
To ensure the maximum amount of safety, all learners and staff are required to wear face coverings in
communal areas (corridors, refectories, libraries, toilets) and on all college transport, from
Tuesday 1st September.
Learners with an underlying medical condition must contact Learning Support on aln@gllm.ac.uk to discuss any concerns relating to the wearing
of face coverings.
- How will college
transport operate from September 2020?
We ask that learners follow good hand and respiratory hygiene and social distancing, as this will
play a key role in keeping everyone safe.
This means taking the following precautions:
- do not travel if you are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms, self-isolating as a result of
COVID-19 symptoms, sharing a household with somebody with symptoms or clinically extremely
vulnerable
- consider if using college transport is absolutely necessary
- wash your hands for at least 20 seconds or sanitise your hands before leaving the house
- keep a social distance from people outside of your own contact group throughout the journey to
college, including at the bus stop and on the vehicle. If this is not possible you should avoid
physical contact and face away from others
- avoid physical contact with others
- windows will be open for ventilation
- face away from other people when using transport
- minimise the number of surfaces you touch, and in particular avoid touching surfaces such as
handrails and window ledges
- do not touch your face
- keep the time spent near others as short as possible when using college transport
- do not eat or drink whilst using transport
- practice good respiratory hygiene. The ‘catch it, bin it, kill it’ approach is very important.
You can bring tissues on college transport, disposing of any which are used before leaving the
bus
- wash your hands for at least 20 seconds or sanitise your hands before leaving college and after
arriving home
Further information can be found on the Welsh Government
website, including how to make a face covering and dispose of them safely.
- How will I know where
to sit?
To ensure that learners are not passing each other on the bus and reduce the social distancing, the
following procedure will be followed:
- when boarding the bus on the way to college, learners must sit, taking the rear most available
seat and the person nearest the entrance must disembark first.
- when boarding the bus on the way home from college, follow instructions from driver/college
staff member. Learners must enter the bus taking up the rear most available seat with the last
sitting nearer the front.
- Will transport
providers be following health and safety guidance?
We are asking transport operators to follow the Welsh Government
Guidance.
This guidance includes actions such as regular sanitising, the thorough cleaning of vehicles and the
use of PPE as required.
Please note that a refusal to comply with health and safety requirements, good hygiene and
social
distancing could jeopardise your place on college transport. We appreciate your support to keep
everyone safe.
- College Travel Code of
Conduct
To ensure the safety of all, learners using college transport must agree to the following:
- Learners who are entitled to a bus pass must carry their passes at all times and produce them
whenever they are asked to. Failure to do so will lead to refusal to travel on the bus or a fare
being charged.
- Face coverings must be worn at all times, when waiting for college transport, whilst travelling
and when leaving the bus.
- When waiting for the bus learners must adhere to the 2 metre social distancing rules and only
enter the bus when advised to do so by the bus driver.
- Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds or sanitise your hands before getting on the bus and
after arriving at your destination.
- When entering the bus learners must move to the furthermost seat at the rear and fill from the
back.
- Learners are expected to respect the rights of other bus users, and any harassment or bullying
will not be tolerated.
- Smoking is not allowed on college transport.
- Learners must not consume alcohol or be under the influence of alcohol on college transport.
- Learners must not be under the influence of, or be in possession of illegal drugs on college
transport.
- Learners must not damage or deface any vehicle or fittings.
- Once the bus has arrived college, learner must leave the bus from the front. Learners should not
stand from their seats to leave until the seat in front has left the bus.
- The bus driver has complete authority on the college bus. Failure to follow their directions
will be treated as a serious offence.
Antisocial and bad behaviour on college transport will not be tolerated. Persistent and/or serious
offenders will lose their right to travel on all college transport.
The college will monitor behaviour on buses and will exercise the college disciplinary procedures
where necessary.
The Travel Code of Conduct reflects Welsh Government guidance and could be affected by changes to
national guidance.
