Mared signs first professional contract with Manchester United
The former Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor student made her debut for the Women’s Super League side earlier this year
Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor alumna Mared Griffiths has signed her first professional football contract with Manchester United Women.
Cymru international Mared studied Level 3 Business at the Dolgellau campus until last summer, when she joined United’s under-21 academy team.
The 18-year-old midfielder has now signed with the Women’s Super League club until 2027, with the option of an additional year.

Mared told the club’s website: “Yeah, I’m well impressed with myself and the family and so grateful for this opportunity from the club.
“I think once I left the FAW Academy in North Wales, moving up to Manchester and playing with the Under-21s there’s always an aim [to play in the senior team].
“You can’t just settle down with just playing for the 21s. I think every player has to set high standards for themselves and you have to back yourself to be able to do it one day.
“Being able to target something like this and achieve it the first year in, I think it’s a good deal at the end of the day.”
Mared made her Manchester United debut in February this year, scoring twice in a 6-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Women’s FA Cup.
A couple of weeks later she made her Cymru senior debut in a 1-0 defeat to Italy, having played for the U19 and U17 age-group teams.
Mared, from Trawsfynydd, is one of the first players to represent the senior Cymru team having come through the current FAW Girls Academy system.
