Course Description

Would you like a challenging career in business? Could you benefit from useful, vocational skills? This course prepares you for a career in variety of business areas, including management, finance, law, retail and human resources. It also allows you to gain multiple qualifications and learn how to start your own business.

Do you aspire to be successful? Aiming for a career in business, Law, Finance, Retail, Management or Marketing? Are you thinking of starting your own business? If so, the BTEC Business Extended Diploma Level 3 is for you. The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma equivalent to three A Levels.

  • Year One: achieve the 90 credit Diploma (1.5 A level Equivalent)
  • Year TWO: top up to the Extended Diploma

Marketing
How do businesses compete in a fast paced and challenging environment? You will learn how businesses are using marketing to gain a competitive advantage and increase market share. You will learn how to understand and meet customer needs and develop marketing strategies using a range of creative media methods, which include social media platforms.

Retail
The retail environment is constantly evolving! Advances in technology and changing consumer demand is shaping the way retailers do business. Virtual shopping, consumer psychology and the use of the internet and social media are just some of the sector’s priorities. In this subject you will also learn about specific retailing sectors to include fashion and food.

Management and Leadership
How do businesses get the best out of their people? Not only will you be gaining skills in managing people and working with others but this topic will provide the opportunity for practical activities which include: participation in outdoor activities, opportunity for undertaking a leadership role and plenty of teamwork.

Finance / Accountancy
Learn about the purpose of accounting, the associated processes and its role in the managing of a business. Effective management of financial performance can provide opportunity for businesses to be more cost effective, more competitive and be more likely to ‘balance the books’. This element of the course involves using analytical skills through the development and interpretation of financial accounts.

Law
Learn how laws are developed and who the key people are within the legal system. This will introduce you to elements of business, contract and employment law through the use of real cases and practical application of the law.

International Business
Do you want to part of the next generation of global business leaders? Understand how to embrace the opportunities and challenges of international business and how firms operate and expand in an ever increasing global society.

Entry Criteria

In order to qualify for this course, you will need at least one of the following:

  • 5 GCSEs at grade C or above, including English or Welsh 1st Language and Maths
  • A relevant Level 2 qualification at Merit
  • Relevant industry experience

You will also require an attendance level of 86% in your previous year of study.

As part of the application process, you will be asked to attend an interview to give you the opportunity to discuss the course.

Welsh Baccalaureate

Welsh Baccalaureate is a valuable qualification which is often studied alongside your Level 3 full-time course.

The qualification is graded A*-E, carrying the equivalent UCAS points at Level 3, and equips you with transferable personal and business skills. It is highly regarded by universities and employers alike.

As part of the qualification, you will learn about Global Citizenship, Enterprise and Employability and take part in community engagement and work experience.

Essential Skills

This may include a combination of Application of Number, Communication, Digital Literacy and Essential Employability Skills

GCSE resits

This may include GCSE Numeracy/Maths and/or Welsh/English Language.

Maths & Welsh/English

If you don't achieve a C or above in Maths and/ or English/Welsh, we will support you to retake these subjects as part of your study programme.

Assessment

The programme will be assessed through a blend of the following:

  • Presentations and demonstrations
  • Portfolios of work
  • Performance and observation

Progression

Completion of the programme can lead to a range of options in employment and education.

You could proceed onto a number of higher education programmes at Grŵp Llandrillo Menai, including:

  • BA (Hons) Management and Business
  • Foundation Degree (FdA) Management and Business
  • HND/HNC Business Studies

You could also take our AAT courses to train in accounting.

If you choose to progress directly into employment, you will be able to gain specialised administrative work in various public and private sector contexts. You may also use your skills and qualifications to develop a part-time or casual job into a profession. Alternatively, you could enter a management training programme to advance your career.
