Success for North Wales Dental Nurses
Busnes@LlandrilloMenai’s celebrating success following this year's Society of British Dental Nurses Awards which took place Manchester this weekend.
Nicola Jones won the ‘Long Career’ award, Fiona Morris-Wanklyn won the ‘Mentoring/Supervision’ award and our talented Dental Nurse Apprentice Ezme Knight-Morris who works at Bod Heulog Dental Practice in Rhyl was highly commended in the ‘Student/Early Career’ category.
Speaking about her achievement Nicola Jones reflected on her career. She recalled her first taste of the industry when she did work experience with a local dentist at the age of 14, and how that early experience developed into the career she has today.

“I am so lucky to work in an amazing dental practice which has enabled me to achieve my career goals, it’s also such an honour to be able to work with the Health and Social Care Team at Busnes@LlandrilloMenai to support our fantastic dental nursing apprentices”
Busnes@LlandrilloMenai was the first, and remains the only training provider in north Wales to deliver the Dental Nursing apprenticeship. Teaching started in April 2022, since then enrolments have gone from strength to strength.
Amy Thomas, Health and Social Care - Work Based Learning Manager commented:
“It’s such a brilliant achievement for my team to win these awards at such a prestigious national event. It’s hard to believe that it’s only been three years since we first introduced the dental nursing apprenticeship.
“Demand has gone from strength to strength and we’ve expanded our team so that we can cope with demand. We have trained 29 dental nurses in the last three years, with over 60 others currently undertaking their training.
“For me this is a great example of how work-based learning can respond to meet the needs of health and care businesses in north Wales, we hope to continue to meet the needs of our industry and expand our offer where possible.”
The dental nurse apprenticeship is the ‘Dental All Wales Qualification' developed in partnership with the awarding body Agored Cymru, Bangor University and Grŵp Llandrillo Menai in 2022.
