Orme View Restaurant and Bistro to welcome customers back this month

Coleg Llandrillo’s Orme View Restaurant and Bistro will open again this month as the new academic term begins.

The Bistro will be open from Monday, September 11, while the Orme View restaurant will welcome customers from Tuesday, September 19.

Both are based at the college’s Rhos-on-Sea campus and are open to the public, giving catering and hospitality students the chance to hone their skills in a real-world environment.

The Orme View has an international reputation for excellence, with its staff and students having won numerous national and international awards and competitions. It provides customers with a gourmet dining experience at a fraction of the cost of top restaurants.

The Bistro is open to staff, students and the public for morning coffee and lunch. Everything is cooked and served by students who are supervised by experienced, dedicated staff, while numerous themed events throughout the year demonstrate their imagination and culinary skills.

Both restaurants were awarded the maximum food hygiene rating of five following a recent inspection, along with the Horizons Café, which is open to students and staff at the Rhos campus.

Brian Hansen, lecturer in Culinary Arts and Hospitality, said: “We’re really pleased that we’ve been able to continue our history of five-star food hygiene ratings in the Orme View Restaurant, Y Bistro, and Refectory.

“We have to maintain the highest standards as we have a responsibility to give the students a high benchmark to take with them into the industry.

“Food hygiene and management of food safety standards are an essential part of our professional training, and are embedded into our education from Level 1 right through to final-year degree programmes.

“We’re particularly proud to have state-of-the-art kitchen facilities, and that commercial and professional standards are being transferred to the students as part of our teaching. We don’t do it just in theory, we do it in practice as well.”

The Orme View Restaurant will be open for lunch Tuesday to Thursday (12pm) from September 19, and for evening dinner on Thursdays (7pm) from September 28. To book, call 01492 542341, email ovr@gllm.ac.uk or book via the online reservation system.

The Bistro will be open for morning coffee, 9.45-10.45am, and for lunch, 12-1.15pm, Monday to Friday, from September 11.
