Glynllifon Students Get a Taste of the UK’s Dairy Industry

Students studying on Agricultural courses at Coleg Glynllifon recently got the opportunity to attend the most important annual event in the UK dairy industry’s calendar.

UK Dairy Day is a dedicated, annual, one-day event for the dairy industry, which is held at the International Centre in Telford, Shropshire at a key time of the year, when crucial plans and decisions are being made ahead of winter.

The students were able to glean key information from industry leaders through trade stands, seminars, breed villages, sharing knowledge zones and careers boards.

Martin Jardine, director of Agri Food at Coleg Glynllifon, said: “Giving our students the opportunity to visit and to learn from industry leaders and experts is a cornerstone of the kind of education we offer at Glynllifon. Making connections and learning from representatives from a wide range of sectors within the dairy industry is vitally important for our students.

“UK Dairy Day is regarded as the place to be for anyone interested in the dairy industry. Some of our students will progress into the dairy industry after college, so making the right connections and knowing what’s happening within this industry can only be a good thing.”

Welsh dairy industry exports are worth £120m annually. Welsh dairy farmers have the natural resources, the right climate and abundant water supplies to produce high yields of grass, allowing them to compete on a global scale.

Mae Diwrnod Llaeth y DU yn ddigwyddiad undydd pwrpasol, blynyddol ar gyfer y diwydiant llaeth, a gynhelir yn y Ganolfan Ryngwladol yn Telford, Swydd Amwythig ar adeg allweddol o'r flwyddyn, pan fydd cynlluniau a phenderfyniadau hanfodol yn cael eu gwneud cyn y gaeaf.

Llwyddodd y myfyrwyr i gasglu gwybodaeth allweddol gan arweinwyr diwydiant trwy stondinau masnach, seminarau, pentrefi bridio, rhannu parthau gwybodaeth a byrddau gyrfaoedd.

Dywedodd Martin Jardine, cyfarwyddwr Bwyd Amaeth yng Ngholeg Glynllifon: “Mae rhoi cyfle i’n myfyrwyr ymweld â arweinwyr ac arbenigwyr y diwydiant a dysgu oddi wrthynt yn gonglfaen i’r math o addysg a gynigiwn yng Nghlynllifon. Mae gwneud cysylltiadau a dysgu gan gynrychiolwyr o ystod eang o sectorau yn y diwydiant llaeth yn hanfodol bwysig i'n myfyrwyr.

“Mae Diwrnod Llaeth y DU yn cael ei ystyried fel y lle i fod ar gyfer unrhyw un sydd â diddordeb yn y diwydiant llaeth. Bydd rhai o'n myfyrwyr yn symud ymlaen i'r diwydiant llaeth ar ôl coleg, felly mae creu cysylltiadau fel hyn yn hynod o bwysig.”

Mae allforion diwydiant llaeth Cymru werth £ 120m yn flynyddol. Mae gan ffermwyr llaeth Cymru yr adnoddau naturiol, yr hinsawdd gywir a chyflenwadau dŵr toreithiog i gynhyrchu cynnyrch uchel o laswellt, gan ganiatáu iddynt gystadlu ar raddfa fyd-eang.
