Former Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor A-level Student Starts New Business Mid-Pandemic

Alaw Mared Jones, a former A-level student at Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor’s Pwllheli campus, started a fitness business called ‘Coached by Alaw’ during the pandemic.

Alaw, originally from Penrhyndeudraeth, studied A-levels in Biology, Psychology and Sport at Pwllheli, where she received AAA * grades, before going on to study for a degree in Physiotherapy (BSc) at Cardiff University.

Alaw Mared Jones said: “During lockdown, like many, I had started to get bored. I was extremely lucky to be able to borrow weights from Yard 6 gym. So while improving my fitness on the outside patio, I was starting to get more curious about the fitness world as a whole.

"After qualifying as an instructor online, I started the company almost immediately. I was flat out all summer! I was getting up at at 5am every morning to start work at 6am. I then worked until 8pm every night.”

‘Coached by Alaw’ is an online fitness training company offering fitness augmentation courses, and tailored fitness programs. For more information click HERE.

Bryn Hughes Parry, assistant principal of Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor, said: “Seeing our former students succeed in challenging circumstances is great. As someone who has worked closely with young people during the pandemic, I know that things have been difficult. Seeing Alaw turn a difficult situation into an opportunity for her to share her expertise with her peers, is fantastic.”
