Course Description
Are you passionate about food and drink? Would you like to work in one of the largest and most diverse industries in the world?
This Level 2 course provides you with an exciting curriculum, designed to enhance your practical skills equipping you to work in the vibrant hospitality industry.
You will experience a wide range of creative activities that will include
Culinary techniques in kitchen, larder and pastry.
Customer service
Table theatre and service
Bar, wine and cocktail service
Barista skills
Teamwork
Food costing and menu planning
Legislation
Health and Safety
Food Safety
Throughout the course, each student's development is nurtured and encouraged in a supportive environment. You will be tutored by professional practitioners, who will guide and support you as you develop your skills.
As part of your training you will also be required to develop your literacy and numeracy skills.
You will be expected to purchase uniforms and basic kit. Help towards this cost may be available through grants.

Entry Criteria
In order to qualify for this course, you will need at least one of the following:
- A relevant Level 1 qualification at Pass
- Relevant industry experience
You will also require an attendance level of 86% in your previous year of study.
As part of the application process, you will be asked to attend an interview to give you the opportunity to discuss the course.
Delivery
The programme will be delivered in our state of the art kitchens and restaurants through a blend of the following:
Practical training in a realistic working environment
Practical sessions in skills kitchen
Access to local and national competitions
Classroom based and virtual learning
Educational visits
Your programme will include a combination of:
- Essential Skills qualifications and/or
- GCSE resits
Essential Skills
This may include a combination of Application of Number, Communication, Digital Literacy and Essential Employability Skills
GCSE resits
This may include GCSE Numeracy/Maths and/or Welsh/English Language.
Assessment
The programme will be assessed through:
Practical tests in the kitchen and restaurant throughout the year
Written assignments
Short answer question tests
