Course Description
- Are you interested in working in the beauty industry?
- Would you like to achieve a range of professional skills in this area?
If you answered yes to both of the above questions, then this course may be an ideal route to achieving this goal.
This qualification will enable you to improve the appearance of the hands and feet with manicure and pedicure techniques, you will also learn how to provide relaxing head massage treatments, cleansing, toning and moisturising treatments and you will learn how to give advice on skin care and day make-up application. Skills will also cover artistic and creative elements on the course such as nail art, themed face painting and photographic make-up.
You will develop a sound knowledge of health and safety and develop underpinning knowledge of salon reception duties, retail displays and working with others.
Throughout this course you will develop your knowledge and understanding of relevant anatomy and physiology, health and safety, client care and cosmetic beauty products and equipment. You will also develop a range of technical skills enabling you to provide a variety of treatments using different techniques, including developing interpersonal skills that will assist you to communicate effectively with clients.
The first part of the programme will run from September through to February half term, with the aim of achieving the VTCT Level 1 Diploma in Beauty Therapy.
Within this you will cover the following topics:
Follow health & safety in the salon
Introduction to the hair and beauty sector
Providing manicure treatments
Providing pedicure treatments
Salon reception duties
Facial skincare
The art of photographic Make-up
Themed face painting
Working with others in the beauty sector
Make-up application
Create a hair and beauty image
Nail Art application
Presenting a professional image in the salon.
The second part of the programme runs from February with a completion planned for the end of June, with the aim of achieving the following:
VTCT Level 2 NVQ Award in Eyebrow & Eyelash treatments
VTCT Level 2 Award in LED Gel Polish Techniques
VTCT Level 2 NVQ Award in Make-Up
Your programme will include a combination of:
Essential Skills qualifications and/or
GCSE resits
This may include a combination of Application of Number, Communication, Digital Literacy and Essential Employability Skills. There may also be the opportunity to undertake GCSE Numeracy/Maths and/or Welsh/English Language resits.
Following the completion of both the level 1 Diploma and the level 2 units you will have options to develop your skills in a specialist pathway by undertaking further studies at level 2 or to look for employment. Gaining employment may give you further opportunities to gain skills and qualifications whilst working in the industry.

You will work with a Personal Tutor who will help you organise your studies and meet with you at least once a week.
Entry Criteria
In order to qualify for this course, you will need a willingness to learn, self motivated and good organisational skills are essential plus at least one of the following:
2 GCSEs at grade D or above
You will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to study by achieving your GCSE target grades and completing year 11 with good attendance.
Successful completion of a Traineeship, Pre-vocational, Pathways or School Link Programme
Relevant industry experience

As part of the application process, you will be asked to attend an interview with the Personal Tutor who will give you the opportunity to discuss the course and content further .
