Train-ing future Engineers

Engineering students at Coleg Meirion Dwyfor’s Hafan Campus in Pwllheli recently visited Boston Lodge Railway Works, Ffestiniog Railway Company’s principal workshop.

School pupils from Ysgol Eifionydd, Ysgol Glan Y Môr and Ysgol Botwnnog studying Level 1 ‘Performing Engineering Operations’, had first-hand experience of the heavy engineering work being undertaken by the staff at Boston Lodge in Porthmadog.

Full-time students studying Level 2 and level 3 Marine Engineering courses at Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor also got the opportunity to visit the railway works. They were introduced to a rail boat, and the staff gave the students an interesting tour around the site to show the wide variety of precision engineering operations carried out at the site.

Emlyn Evans, Engineering Lecturer at Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor, said,

"Thanks to Erfyl and Dewi at the Boston Works, and the many other staff members who showed us the workings of the workshop in Porthmadog and its divisions of Engineering, Signalling and Infrastructure who keep the railway in good working order. We look forward to returning again soon!"
