Students in Ynys Môn team for Island Games

Coleg Menai learners and alumni are preparing to face island teams from around the world in the Orkney 2025 Games, which start on Saturday

Coleg Menai students past and present are in the Ynys Môn squad set to compete in the Island Games in Orkney (July 12 to 18).

The Games will feature athletes from up to 24 island groups around the world, competing in 12 sports.

The Ynys Môn team comprises 84 athletes across eight of the sports, as well as 21 coaches and officials.

Among the Coleg Menai students selected is Wales Under-19 footballer Casi Evans, who combines her Level 3 Sport & Exercise Science course with playing for Blackburn Rovers.

Casi is joined in the Ynys Môn women’s football squad by Catrin Roberts (Level 3 Sports Coaching) and past students Ceri Slaney and Menna Evans.

The men’s football squad features Richard Harri Jones (L3 Sport & Exercise Science) and Cai Roberts (L3 Coaching), as well as former students Alex Boss, Cai Griffith, Cai Powell Roberts, Caio Evans, Dylan Summers Jones, Osian Jones, Sam Jones and Liam Morris.

The Ynys Môn coaching staff also features Coleg Menai alumni Barry Edwards, Liam Ewing and Eban Geal.

This year’s Island Games will get underway with the opening ceremony on Saturday, before the competition proper starts on Sunday - with medals in athletics and triathlon up for grabs on the first day.

Ynys Môn athletes will compete in athletics, badminton, football, golf, gymnastics, sailing, swimming and triathlon, while the Games also features archery, cycling, lawn bowls and squash.

This will be the 20th edition of the Island Games, which are held every two years. The 2027 tournament will take place in the Faroe Islands.
