Grŵp Llandrillo Menai Apprentices represent Engineering Excellence

Engineering Apprentices from Grŵp Llandrillo Menai recently gathered at RAF Valley for an Apprenticeship Achievement Day.

The day celebrated Babcock’s Aeronautical Engineering apprentices who have completed their apprenticeships and secured full-time roles at RAF Valley.

The event was opened by Wing Commander, Bruce McKenna, who emphasised the importance of engineering as a vital element of the UK’s armed deterrent, enabling faster deployment in a more efficient manner.

Apprentices, Nash Costigan and Nathanial Evans received awards from the Institute of Engineering Technology for personal development and all seven apprentices were recognised by the Worshipful Livery Company of Wales for demonstrating excellence in the field of engineering.

Grŵp Llandrillo Menai and Babcock have been working in partnership since 2016, with 56 apprentices having successfully completed an apprenticeship. Many have gone on to build successful careers with Babcock on Ynys Môn and around the world.

There are currently nine apprentices on the programme and recruitment for 2024 is already underway.

Aled Jones-Griffiths - Grŵp Llandrillo Menai, said: “We are immensely proud of the apprentices who have worked so hard to excel in the workplace. It is great to see local young people training and gaining employment with a prestigious company such as Babcock, and Grŵp Llandrillo Menai is proud to be working closely with industry to develop programmes that deliver excellent training.”

Chloe Young, Managing Director for UK Aviation at Babcock, added: “Our partnership with Grŵp Llandrillo Menai at RAF Valley continues to be a great success. Our apprentices gain hands-on experience in a truly unique educational environment that encourages them to both thrive and succeed.

“They should all be incredibly proud of what they have achieved, and I am certain that each of them has an extremely bright future ahead. Diolch am eich gwaith caled dros y ddwy flynedd diwethaf a da iawn chi!”
