Grŵp Llandrillo Menai and Betsi Cadwaladr strengthen strategic partnership to drive skills, careers, and opportunities across North Wales

Grŵp Llandrillo Menai (GLlM) and Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) yesterday (4th December 2025), reinforcing their long-standing collaboration to deliver enhanced training, skills development, and career pathways for people across North Wales.

The MoU builds on years of collaboration between Wales’ largest health organisation and one of the UK’s largest and most successful further and higher education providers.

By aligning education and training routes with the region’s healthcare workforce needs, the partnership will help address high-demand and hard-to-fill roles, expand Welsh-medium pathways, and support targeted outreach in rural communities.

The agreement will be overseen by a new Strategic Steering Group, ensuring that actions lead to measurable benefits for the people and communities of North Wales.

Aled Jones-Griffith, Chief Executive at Grŵp Llandrillo Menai, said:
"This agreement cements and accelerates the work we have been doing together for many years. By combining our expertise and resources, we can create even more opportunities for people in North Wales to acquire the skills, qualifications, and confidence they need to thrive in vital roles. This is about shaping a workforce that truly reflects and serves our communities."

Dr Griff Jones, Chair of the Board, Grŵp Llandrillo Menai, said:
"The college is deeply committed to supporting the health and prosperity of our region. This partnership ensures that our learners – whether school leavers, apprentices, or adult returners – have clear and supported pathways into secure, meaningful employment with BCUHB. It’s a shared investment in our people, our language, and our future."

Carol Shillabeer, Chief Executive of Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, said:

“As a Health Board we are committed to supporting education and development opportunities for people in North Wales. We have a large and diverse workforce and by working closely with Grŵp Llandrillo Menai we can help to train and employ more people from our own communities to support services for the future.”

Dyfed Edwards, Chair of Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, said:

"This agreement with Grŵp Llandrillo Menai demonstrates our shared commitment to working with our partners to improve training and employment opportunities for people across the region. This collaboration will open doors for local people, offering them access to high-quality education, practical experience, and meaningful careers within the NHS. It is an investment in both our communities and our future.”
