Good luck to learners on the Level 3 Enhanced General Engineering course at Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor who are enhancing their work placement portfolios during the holidays

Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor engineering students are venturing into the world of work during the Easter holiday.

Learners on the BTEC Level 3 Enhanced General Engineering course are heading out on their third and fourth work placements of the academic year.

As part of their course, the students at the Pwllheli and Dolgellau campuses are required to gain 20 days of engineering work experience.

Companies providing students with placements over the Easter holiday include: Trawsfynydd Power Station, Rehau (Blaenau Ffestiniog), Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railway, Zip World, South Caernarfon Creameries, Bridge Garage (Pwllheli) Pace Fire & Security, Gwynedd Council, Carl Kammerling, First Hydro, National Grid Dwyryd Estuary project, SP Energy Network, Welsh Water Dŵr Cymru and Harbour Marine (Pwllheli).

Emlyn Evans, engineering lecturer at the Pwllheli and Dolgellau campuses, said: “This week we have the third session of work placements, with 18 students venturing into the world of work with various companies in the local area. Further dates are planned in May 2024.

“The staff at Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor would like to thank those companies who have accepted the learners on work experience during this week. We hope our students enjoy the experience that has been organised for them by the employers.

“The Enhanced Engineering course is providing our students with general engineering skills that will equip them for work in a wide variety of disciplines. Our past students have gone on to higher apprenticeships with companies such as Rolls Royce, Ryanair Maintenance, North Wales Trunk Road Agency and Rehau Ltd. Others have gone to study civil, mechanical, electrical and motorsport engineering at universities in Wales or England.”

Any companies who would like to be part of future work placements, please contact Emlyn Evans via email: evans12e@gllm.ac.uk
