Eisteddfod success for college’s students

A-level Welsh learners from the Pwllheli and Dolgellau campuses have won 37 prose prizes so far this year - including at Eisteddfod yr Urdd Maldwyn 2024

Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor A-level Welsh students have won prose competitions at this week’s Urdd Eisteddfod.

Efa Glyn Jones won first place in the Prose under 25 (blog) competition at Eisteddfod yr Urdd Maldwyn 2024, with Angharad Sophia Thomas winning the Prose under 25 (araith).

There was a clean sweep for Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor in both competitions, with the second and third places also going to A-level students from the college.

Noa Rhys Williams was second in the Prose under 25 (blog), with Angharad Lloyd Davies taking third place.

In the Prose under 25 (araith), Milli Foskett Roberts took second place, while Nansi Glyn Williams was third.

Their successes are the latest of 37 awards in local and national Eisteddfods so far this year for Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor’s A-level Welsh learners.

Marged Tudur, A-level Welsh tutor, said: “Congratulations to the students of the Welsh Language department of Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor Pwllheli and Dolgellau for achieving a feat in local and national Eisteddfods this year.

“To date, 37 awards have come to the department and 14 students have received different awards.

“There is a bubbling literary scene in Dwyfor-Meirionydd. Different national judges - Rhys Iorwerth, Andrea Parry, Idris Reynolds, Melanie Owen, Guto Dafydd and Sioned Erin Hughes, to name just a few - have given exceptional praise to the students.

“We are very proud of their success and without a doubt, we will hear a lot more from these special writers in the future. Congratulations to you all.”
