Art student from Ukraine Celebrates the Visual Culture of her Country

An Art and Design student at Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor’s Dolgellau campus has created a series of impressive pictures that celebrate Ukraine's folk and traditional art.

Daryna Bandurka fled the war in Ukraine last year, and has been creating pieces of art during her time at college, to help raise money for the people of Ukraine.

Her artwork has been placed in the reception area of the college - where it's possible to buy her work. The money raised will be sent to humanitarian charities working in Ukraine.

Iolo Tudur Lewis, Art and Design lecturer at Dolgellau, said,

"As an Art and Design department we are very proud of Daryna's resounding success. This body of work is not only impressive, timely but also unique."

He added

"Daryna has managed to respond in a positive way through the folk and traditional artwork of her country. We are proud to be able to show our support for her by placing the work in the reception of Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor’s campus in Dolgellau, where it is possible to buy the work."

Principal of Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor and Coleg Menai, Aled Jones-Griffith, said,

“Darnya’s work is of the highest quality and reflects the culture of Ukraine so well - it is a completely poignant work - full of bright and vibrant colours, which are in complete contrast with the situation in Ukraine today. Congratulations to Darnya, and I admire her passion for her work even more in such a difficult time for her."
