Course Description

Would you like to learn about the sport and leisure industries, whilst developing your fitness and sporting skills?

This course gives you an insight into the industry, as well as introducing sports science subjects, fitness training and exercise programming. It also involves plenty of practical and coaching activities.

You will study topics such as: Fitness Testing and Training, First Aid, Nutrition and Anatomy and Physiology.

Your full programme of study will include the Sport qualification, alongside additional qualifications which will support your wider skills development and support you to progress. Your personalised programme (grade profile development) will include a combination from GCSE resits, Literacy, Numeracy, Employability and Digital skills.

Entry Criteria

In order to qualify for this course, you will need at least one of the following:

  • 4 GCSEs at grade D or above. English or Welsh 1st Language and Maths / Numeracy at grade D or higher.

OR

  • If you are progressing from Level 1 you should have a relevant level 1 qualification (ideally the Sport and Public Services Level 1) plus at least Entry 3 Essential Skills Number and Level 1 Communications (or equivalent GCSEs)

If you are not sure if you have the entry requirements profile, or have alternative qualifications that you think are equivalent, please contact learner services via the chat function or directly. Learner services will be able to discuss your profile and advise you of course options.

Maths & Welsh/English

If you don't achieve a C or above in Maths and/ or English/Welsh, we will support you to retake these subjects as part of your study programme.

Progression

Completion of this course will provide you with various options in employment and education.

  • Sport (Performance and Excellence) Level 3
  • Sport (Sport and Exercise Science) Level 3
  • Sport Level 3

If you wish to move directly into employment, you will have a number of options in the public and private sectors. You could enter the leisure industry, the health and fitness industry, the armed forces or the emergency services. You could also try to pursue a career as a professional or semi-professional athlete.
