Course Description
The WJEC specification was updated in 2021 and the qualification, once completed, carries the same UCAS points as A level subjects. It can now be taken alongside A levels as part of a level 3 / A level pathway. This qualification supports learners’ progression from any study at Level 2, particularly GCSEs in Sociology, Law, Psychology and Humanities. Entry Criteria
In order to qualify for this course, you will need the following:
6 GCSEs at grade C or above, including English or Welsh 1st Language, and Mathematics or Numeracy
As part of the application process, you will be asked to attend an interview to give you the opportunity to discuss the course.
Progression to 2nd year (Applied Diploma) is based on performance in the 1st year (Applied Certificate)

As part of the qualification, you will learn about Global Citizenship, Enterprise and Employability and take part in community engagement and work experience.
Essential Skills
This may include a combination of Application of Number, Communication, Digital Literacy and Essential Employability Skills.
GCSE resits
This may include GCSE Numeracy/Maths and/or Welsh/English Language.
Maths & Welsh/English
If you don't achieve a C or above in Maths and/ or English/Welsh, we will support you to retake these subjects as part of your study programme.
Your programme will include a combination of:

The course combines one exam and a piece of controlled assessment in year 1 and year 2.

This course is aimed at A level students who are interested in a career in the Police / Law enforcement / Youth justice / Probation / Prison/ Social care sectors.
