Course Description
Master High-Demand Engineering Skills

We focus on practical expertise: you'll spend time doing hands-on tasks in our industry-standard workshops, balanced with classroom sessions to build a robust understanding of engineering principles.
The result is a qualification recognised and respected by employers globally. You'll graduate ready for the next step - securing a great full-time role or landing a prestigious apprenticeship.
Entry Criteria
In order to qualify for this course, you will need at least one of the following:
- Successfully completed Engineering Craft Level 2 or
- Gained an equivalent vocational level 2 qualification
- Gained relevant work experience which will be considered on an individual basis
Along with:
- Minimum of Level 1 in Comms and Aon or D grades in English and Maths/Numeracy with the understanding that they will be required to work towards a L2 or GCSE resit.
As part of the application process you must attend an interview to discuss the course.
Delivery
The City and Guilds 2850 programme will be delivered through a blend of the following:
- Practical demonstrations
- Realistic workshop tasks
- Classroom activities
- You may need to complete 150 hours of work experience
An appointed Personal Tutor will mentor you throughout your course.
Your programme will include a combination of:
- Essential Skills qualifications and/or
- GCSE resits and/or
- The Welsh Baccalaureate
Welsh Baccalaureate
Welsh Baccalaureate is a valuable qualification which is often studied alongside your Level 3 full-time course.
The qualification is graded A*-E, carrying the equivalent UCAS points at Level 3, and equips you with transferable personal and business skills. It is highly regarded by universities and employers alike.
As part of the qualification, you will learn about Global Citizenship, Enterprise and Employability and take part in community engagement and work experience.
Essential Skills
This may include a combination of Application of Number, Communication, Digital Literacy and Essential Employability Skills
GCSE resits
This may include GCSE Numeracy/Maths and/or Welsh/English Language.
Maths & Welsh/English
If you don't achieve a C or above in Maths and/ or English/Welsh, we will support you to retake these subjects as part of your study programme.
Assessment
The programme will be assessed through a blend of the following:
- Practical assessment
- Online assessment
- Oral questioning
- Written questions
- Short learner task sheets for you to complete independently
Progression
You could progress onto the following:
- Engineering Apprenticeships (Apprenticeship Level 3 in Engineering)
- Employment
The qualification is valued by employers and will prepare you for work-related progress.
Apprenticeships and Higher Apprenticeships are an attractive option if you are looking for employment in the local area or with larger national companies.
