Ex-Student Brews Up New Coffee Business!

A past Coleg Menai student has launched a new coffee business in Caernarfon.

Ceurwyn Humprheys, who is originally from Blaenau-Ffestiniog but now lives in Caernarfon, started ‘Coffi Dre’ with his two close friends in September.

Having studied Electronic Engineering and then Media Production at Coleg Menai between 2008 and 2012, Ceurwyn has since worked as a Sound Engineer and Operations Engineer for BBC in Cardiff and Bangor.

The business, ‘Coffi Dre’, was launched after Ceurwyn realised there was a gap in the market in the town of Caernarfon.

‘Coffi Dre’ is a blended coffee venture, with the culture of Caernarfon at the heart of its purpose. The business launched on September 14th, and sold out of its first blend ‘Twthill’ after just four days!

Ceurwyn, and his two friends and business partners, Haydn Riley-Walsh and Thomas Graham, are also in the process of refurbishing a horse box into a mobile artisan coffee shop.

Ceurwyn said,

“It has been a fantastic experience launching Coffi Dre, we can’t wait to complete the renovation of the horse box and hopefully make it to some Christmas markets over the next few months!”

“We are really determined to celebrate Caernarfon and its people with Coffi Dre. Using the old ‘Iaith y Cofi’ to bring back some recognition to the local words and phrases used by the people of Caernarfon is something really important to us. For example - a discount code on our website - ‘giaman’ - is Cofi for ‘cat’!”

It is hoped that ‘Coffi Dre’ will be able to open a roastery and coffee shop in Caernarfon town centre in the future.
