Theatr Clwyd announced as latest ‘Spoke’ partner of the Tourism Talent Network
As part of the Tourism Talent Network, led by Grŵp Llandrillo Menai, it will help deliver world-class training and knowledge-sharing across the region
Theatr Clwyd has been announced as the latest anchor partner in a £19m project to boost tourism and hospitality skills across North Wales.
As part of the Tourism Talent Network, led by Grŵp Llandrillo Menai, it will help deliver world-class training and knowledge-sharing across the region.
Theatr Clwyd will be joining two other ‘Spoke’ partners already on board – Zip World and Portmeirion, with an additional ‘Spoke’ to be appointed later this year. The collaboration also includes strategic partnerships with the National Trust, and Snowdonia Hospitality & Leisure Ltd.
The North Wales Growth Deal, led by Ambition North Wales, has committed £4.43m as part of the project - with ‘Spokes’ each receiving a £1m grant from the investment.
All partners will work closely with the Centre of Excellence at the Coleg Llandrillo campus – creating a network of state-of-the-art developments to become anchors for delivering bespoke training, apprenticeships and other specialist skills support.
The newly redeveloped Theatr Clwyd will play a key role in the Tourism Talent Network, offering a diverse range of training opportunities across the visitor, arts and culture tourism, and hospitality sector – from marketing and communications; to duty management; sales, events management, and opportunities within their new hospitality and catering offers.
As a designated ‘Spoke’ partner, Theatr Clwyd will also provide a minimum of 50 apprenticeships over the next 10 years, tailored to meet both sector-wide and business-specific needs across all areas of delivery relating to arts, tourism and hospitality.
Charlie McCoubrey, Ambition North Wales’s project lead for the Agri-food and Tourism Programme, said: “As a key Spoke partner, Theatr Clwyd will play a pivotal role in driving forward the core and wider benefits of the Tourism Talent Network. Their contribution will be wide ranging, with a strong focus on skills development, job creation, and developing innovation in the creative and cultural aspects of the hospitality and tourism sector. Theatr Clwyd’s impressive new facilities and ongoing redevelopment make it an ideal spoke for inspiring and training the next generation of talent.
“We now have five strong Spoke partners who will all play their individual role inspiring fresh talent to enter the hospitality and tourism sector, while preserving the rich language, culture, and heritage of North Wales.”
Aled Jones Griffiths, Chief Executive of Grŵp Llandrillo Menai, said: “Recognising the scale and unique quality of the tourism and hospitality sector in North Wales, our vision has always been to champion the region as a leader in sustainable tourism and hospitality innovation. We’re thrilled to welcome Theatr Clwyd as a spoke partner — an organisation rich in arts, culture, and a true celebration of creativity. Their involvement brings an exciting cultural dimension to this ambitious project, and we’re confident it will enhance the lasting economic, social, cultural, and environmental benefits we’re working to deliver for North Wales.”
Liam Ford-Evans, Executive Director and CEO of Theatr Clwyd, added: “It is a real honour for Theatr Clwyd to join the Tourism Talent Network. Our new world class facilities in North Wales will attract national and international recognition, but they are for our local communities. Through our arts and cultural delivery, our high quality theatre production skills, food and drink offer, our running of William Aston Hall in Wrexham and also through training and job opportunities, we will work with the other partners to continue making the region a popular destination for visitors, and an increasingly vibrant place to live and work.”
