Art students paint Nantporth mural to inspire Bangor 1876

The mural is the first of several exciting projects planned by Coleg Menai’s Art Foundation course in conjunction with the Cymru North football club

Coleg Menai art students have painted a new mural in the home dressing room of Nantporth Stadium, home of Bangor 1876.

Learners on the Art Foundation course designed the mural aided by feedback from fans, the players and manager Michael Johnston.

They spent a day and a half painting the mural, which was ready in time to inspire the team for Saturday’s Cymru North home game against Caersws.

The mural was set as a group project to the graphic design students on the Art foundation course at the Parc Menai campus. However, students from all specialist areas were involved in painting the final design.

Course leader Owein Prendergast said: “The Art foundation course has been in discussions with Bangor 1876 FC for a few months with a view to planning several exciting art-based projects in the Bangor area related to the area’s rich football history.

“This is the first project to come to fruition, and gave the students invaluable experience of working with a client.

“During the design process they had feedback from some fans, the football team and manager Michael Johnston. The final design took a day and a half to paint, and was completed in time for 1876's home fixture against Caersws on Saturday.

“The students worked incredibly hard to complete it. It was an enjoyable experience and it's hoped it will give the team a boost."
