Course Description

An apprenticeship in Painting & Decorating is a 3 ½ year course where you are employed by a Painter & Decorator or a construction company and attend college 1 day/week.

While on site with your employer you will be gaining skills and experience working on Painting & Decorating jobs. At first, you will be doing low level jobs and helping qualified Painter & Decorators to do their work; but over time, you will gain experience so that you can apply paint and wallpaper. At the end of the 3 ½ year course you will be assessed on site doing a range of painting & decorating jobs. This is called the “Final Practical Project” where a college assessor will visit you over a number of days to confirm your competence.

You will attend college 1 day per week throughout your apprenticeship, but the weeks at college will follow a typical academic year. College will be a mix of classroom theory and workshop practical sessions.

Theory will cover all aspects of the construction industry and not just painting & decorating. Your skills and knowledge gained at college will supplement your on-site experience. You will be required to sit up to 3 on-line multi-choice question exams. There is only one practical assessment while at college.
