Course Description

The aim of this course is to enable you to develop the knowledge and skills to accurately produce routine professional documents for the medical environment. Learn how to interpret relevant information and use a range of word processing techniques to edit, format and print a range of standard documents, use audio equipment and software in order to produce a range of routine and professional medical documents.

You will learn how to transcribe recorded speech of a routine nature containing medical terminology and apply word processing techniques to produce and format documents that are common in a medical environment. You will also learn the importance of proofreading your work and how to use appropriate checking methods to produce accurate and professional documents.

Completion of this course will give you important skills for a career in medical administration work. It can help you succeed in an administrative role in any size or type of NHS organisation, including: Secretary, Receptionist, Administrator, Medical Records Clerk and Ward Clerk.

Entry Criteria

Good use of the English language is considered beneficial with particular focus on accuracy in spelling.

Medical Terminology at Level 2 is highly beneficial for audio transcription.

Delivery

Taught sessions using discussion, practical exercises/activities, assessments, direct instructions, demonstrations and other learning methods.

Assessment

All work will be assessed through a mixed approach including the following: portfolio of evidence and assessment of practical tasks.
