Apprenticeship enquiry formCourse Description
An apprenticeship in Electrical Installation is a 4 ½ year course where you are employed by an electrician or construction company and attend college 1 day/week.
While on site with your employer you will be gaining skills and experience working on electrical installation jobs. At first, you will be doing low level jobs and helping qualified electricians to do their work; but over time, you will gain experience so that you can support your employer to install, maintain and repair electrical systems yourself. This can include power, heating, lighting, security systems and renewable energy technologies.
At the end of the course, you will be assessed on site doing a range of electrical installation jobs. This is called the “Final Practical Project” where a college assessor will visit you over a number of days to confirm your competence.
You will attend college 1 day per week throughout your apprenticeship, but the weeks at college will follow a typical academic year. College will be a mix of classroom theory and workshop practical sessions.
Theory will cover all aspects of the electrical installation and the construction industry. Your skills and knowledge gained at college will supplement your on-site experience. You will be required to sit up to 3 on-line multi-choice question exams and have a 45 minute Professional Discussion with an external examiner. There is only one practical assessment while at college.
