Course Description
This course is designed for homeowners and DIY enthusiasts who want to tackle basic woodworking projects and maintenance around the home. Whether you're looking to build shelving or repair wooden frames, this is a practical, entry-level introduction.
What to expect: A hands-on workshop focused on practical skills. You’ll spend less time on theory and more time using tools, ensuring you leave with the confidence to tackle your own projects safely.
At Dolgellau you will learn:
- Hand and Power Tools: Learning how to use saws, drills, and chisels safely and accurately.
- Joints and Assembly: Mastering the basics of measuring, marking, and creating strong timber joints.
- General Maintenance: Essential DIY tasks, such as fitting hinges, repairing furniture, and understanding different types of wood.
At Rhos-on-Sea you will learn:
- Health & Safety Unit
- Cutting and measuring tasks
- Basic joints - Corner halving, tee halving, dovetail, mortise and tenon to improve hand skills.
- Tee halving assessment
- Skirting and architrave - Start on mini jigs to practice with different mouldings to gain more experience on how to scribe and miter accurately. Skirting and architrave assessment to finish.
If there is time after completing the assessments:
- Stud partitioning and hanging doors.
Entry Criteria
There are no entry requirements for this course.
Each student must provide their own Personal Protective Equipment.
Delivery
This course will be delivered through workshop sessions, combining theory with practical work.
Assessment
Observation and practical tasks.
