Course Description

The Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Nail Services provides progression from the Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Nail Services or Beauty Therapy and the opportunity to progress and advance your skills within the nail services industry.

This framework provides a nationally agreed apprenticeship framework for a work-based learning route within the Nail Services industry, using qualifications that combine both skills and knowledge to advance their creative and business skills.

Entry Criteria

  • No formal qualifications are required but recommended that you hold a level 2 Beauty or Nails qualifications
  • Apprentices must have an employer who can cover the NVQ criteria or we can support you in finding an employer
  • You must be enthusiastic, committed and willing to learn
  • You will be required to attend an interview

All places are subject to satisfactory interviews.

Delivery

The majority of the course is delivered in the workplace. However, Work-Based Learners will benefit from a blend of the following:

  • Theory classes
  • Practical workshops
  • Demonstrations
  • Opportunity to work on clients within the colleges' commercial salon

The nail services courses do not attend college for practical and theory workshops. All technical training will need to be provided by the salon. There will be opportunities to undertake training in the college salon as well as bring in clients when needed. An Assessor will complete all assessments and theory within the workplace.

You will have to attend Essential Skills Qualifications sessions at a convenient college site, if required.

Assessment

The course is assessed through a blend of the following:

  • Completion of Electronic Portfolio of practical assessments for each unit Assignments and tasks
  • Multiple-choice tests covering the underpinning knowledge (Online Exams) Theory based tasks and tests
  • Work-Based Observations and Assessments
  • Your behavior will also count towards your assessment, in terms of maturity, development, interaction and communication

Progression

From this Level 3 Nail Services apprenticeship program you can progress:

  • Into employment as a nail technician or other job role in the beauty related industry
  • Into higher education such as a Foundation Degree in Beauty Therapy and Salon Management or other programs.
  • Progression will be based on meeting clientele requirements for the higher level.
  • Progression may also be available to other related routes such as Beauty Therapy or Hairdressing.

Campus Information Work-Based Learning

A practical course aimed at those who would like to pursue a career in Nail Services, this pathway develops skills to advanced level and employment as a Nail Technician, carrying out treatments including maintaining nails using UV gel, builder gel & liquid and powder. Creating salon nail art along with advanced nail art options. Further skills in the use of electric files are also included.

Unit Information

Nail Services

To achieve the full qualification candidates must complete all 3 mandatory units totaling 24 credits and optional units to a minimum of 24 credits to give an overall total of 48 credits.

MANDATORY UNITS

  • Monitor procedures to safely control work operations - 4 credits (1 competence3 knowledge)
  • Enhance and maintain nails using UV gel - 10 credits (7 competence 3 knowledge)
  • Enhance and maintain nails using liquid and powder - 10 credits (7 competence3 knowledge)

OPTIONAL UNITS

  • Contribute to the financial effectiveness of the business - 4 credits (1 competence 3 knowledge)
  • Enhance and maintain nails using wraps - 8 credits (5 competence 3 knowledge)
  • Plan and create nail art designs - 6 credits (4 competence 2 knowledge)
  • Develop a range of creative nail images - 5 credits (3 competence 2 knowledge)
  • Plan and provide airbrush design for nails - 5 credits (3 competence 2 knowledge)
  • Prepare and finish nail overlays using electric files - 4 credits (3 competence 1 knowledge)
  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of promotional activities - 5 credits (2 competence 3 knowledge)
