Course Description

Anyone working at all levels in the manufacturing supply chain, particularly those involved in product design, manufacture, inspection and testing, sales, procurement and project management.

The key knowledge requirements are presented in three linked modules:

Basic Nuclear Awareness (BNA)

What is the history of the nuclear industry and its unique culture? Includes: radiation and contamination, what constitutes a nuclear power plant, the history of nuclear power in the UK, safety compliance and lessons learnt.

Basic Nuclear Quality (BNQ)

What is meant by quality requirements for nuclear manufacturing? Includes: design specifications, quality documentation and the consequences of poor or failed components using real case studies.

Basic Nuclear Behaviours (BNB)

What are the standards of behaviour required in the nuclear industry? Includes: the importance of safe behaviours and the nuclear safety culture, human performance tools and techniques for the prevention of error, workplace observations and event and near-miss reporting.

Entry Criteria

The Triple Bar for Nuclear Manufacturing (TBNM) has been developed by Nuclear Manufacturers for Nuclear Manufacturers.

It gives individuals working in the manufacturing sector a sound understanding of what differentiates nuclear from other industries. It is ideal for new entrants to the sector, as well as long-standing employees who have had little or no prior nuclear awareness training.

The training is aimed at a foundation level of knowledge.

Assessment

  • TBNM end test (30 minute duration consisting of 30 multiple choice questions)

This is to ensure that delegates understand the industry’s requirements in terms of compliance and the consequences of not performing in the right way.
