Course Description
Get qualified to confidently design, size, and install low-carbon heating systems with our industry-recognised NICEIC heat pump training.
To ensure you leave fully equipped to meet MCS standards, every pathway includes the crucial System Design module. Whether you are focusing on Air Source, Ground Source, or both, you will learn not just how to fit the technology, but how to accurately calculate heat loss, specify hydraulics, and design systems that run at peak efficiency.

What You Will Learn
Depending on your chosen pathway, your block-release training will cover:
- Heat Pump Core Foundation: The essential physics, principles, and building regulations behind heat pump technology.
- System Design & Sizing (Included in all routes): Advanced hydraulic design, heat loss calculations, and emitter sizing to guarantee system efficiency.
- Air Source (ASHP): Practical installation, commissioning, and maintenance of monobloc air source units.
- Ground Source (GSHP): Mastering ground loops, collectors, and ground source system installation.
Entry Criteria
To join this course, you need to meet one of the following core criteria:
- A valid N/SVQ Level 2/3 (or equivalent) in Plumbing, Heating & Ventilation, Gas, or Oil services.
- OR: A minimum of 3 years of verifiable experience installing wet central heating systems (e.g., holding Gas Safe, OFTEC, MCS, or manufacturer certificates).
Important: you must also hold valid qualifications in Water Regulations (WR), Unvented Hot Water (UVHW), Energy Efficiency (EE), and Low Temperature Heating & Hot Water Systems (LTHWS). If you do not hold these, please speak to our team about completing them alongside your heat pump training.
