MCSA Windows Server and Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist Modules

Part-time Courses

Please contact us for further information about applying for this course.

Course Description

This course is suitable for people who:

  • have an interest and some experience in networking
  • want to formalise their Microsoft skills by achieving a recognised Microsoft qualification
  • need to improve their Microsoft skills.

This course is not suitable for students who have no knowledge of networking, computers, or the application of computer systems in a work environment.

The programme is divided into a number of 16 week modules and prepares students for MCSA/MCITP or various MCTS qualifications. All courses are MOAC - "Microsoft Official Academic Courses".

The course is made up of 3-4 modules; each module leads to a Microsoft certification - some hold the title of Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) and others lead to the title of Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA).

In addition to the Microsoft MOAC material, students will be expected to submit and pass an Edexcel Higher Education module assignment. This enables us to offer a course which covers Microsoft units up to £1500 cheaper than what is charged by commercial training organisations.

Examples of module content include:

70-410 Installing and Configuring Windows Server including: configuring the Active Directory infrastructure, Configuring Domain Name System (DNS) for Active Directory, Maintaining the Active Directory environment.

Students may be required to devote some time at home to working through the course material.

You will also be able to complete simulations at home via online e-learning material that will be made available.

Each student will receive access to various versions of Microsoft software, which can be installed and used at home. The classes will take place in a dedicated network lab which will consist of networked PCs connected to a series of Cisco routers/switches and a Windows Active Directory Domain Controller.

The course is supported through the College’s Virtual learning Environment called Moodle. Students will be able to access lecture materials, handouts, forums etc through any Internet connection.

Students will have access to an Online Software System which allows students to obtain and install Microsoft software at home as part of the course.

Assessment

Students will be able to sit their Microsoft exams relating to each module of the course at the Pearson Vue/Prometric Test Centres located at the Rhos-on-Sea Campus.

The College will provide two exam vouchers for successful completion of the assignment.
