Course Description

Pathways to Net Zero provides clear, consistent guidance on best practices for responding to the climate crisis. It gives supervisors and leaders both a strategic and operational overview of environmental sustainability, specifically as it applies to their industry or work area. Learners will gain the knowledge and tools to develop, support, or communicate a net zero strategy for their organisation.

  • ● Learning outcomes include coverage of:
      • Definitions: net zero and related terms;
      • Underlying climate science and urgency;
      • International and UK policy context;
      • Risks and opportunities around net zero (including business viability, reputation, supply chain issues);
      • Principles of greenhouse gas inventory and accounting, including scopes 1-3;
      • Science-based target setting;
      • Developing a decarbonisation plan with near- and long-term targets/milestones;
      • Understanding how to reduce emissions that are influenced but not directly controlled (Scope 3);
      • Communicating externally about net zero, making robust green claims.

The course includes guided learning hours, designed to allow participants to absorb both theory and practical approaches.

Entry Criteria

There are no formal entry requirements.
It is strongly preferred that participants are currently in a practicing role where they will be able to engage deeply with the topics covered (e.g. roles involving net zero strategy, carbon reduction, environmental/sustainability responsibilities).

  • Remote on-line (Tutor Led)
    Classroom-based
