Course Description

The RCN Wales Healthcare Connect programme is designed to provide a pathway for trainees who need to top up level 3 qualifications to enable entry onto a nursing or midwifery degree.

It also offers an opportunity for trainees who have obtained qualifications that meet the requirements for a degree programme but feel they would benefit from gaining additional experience in a health/care setting.

This course offers a unique opportunity to earn while you learn. As an employed HCSW in one of the Health Boards/Trusts trainees will work between 12 and 30 hours.

  • Mental Health & Wellbeing
  • Principles of Health Promotion
  • Dementia Awareness
  • Promote Equality and Inclusion
  • Principles for Implementing Duty of Care
  • Promote Person Centred Approaches
  • Promote and Implement Health and Safety
  • Promote Good Practice in Handling Information
  • Working within Multidisciplinary, Primary, Secondary and/or Community Teams
  • Principles of Safeguarding and Protection in Health and Social Care
  • Engage in Personal Development
  • Communication Skills for use within Healthcare Settings
  • Infection Prevention and Control
  • Study Skills for HCSW: Reflective Practice

Entry Criteria

The course is for learners who have completed:

  • Level 3 qualification in a Health Care field, or three A Levels

  • Achieved GCSE English & Maths Grade C or above or equivalent.

  • You need to have the right to work in the UK for the duration of the programme.

  • You will need to be successfully appointed by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board to the role of Healthcare Support Worker following an interview.

Delivery

The course follows a hybrid model that combines theory and practice.

Assessment

Assessment of the qualification will involve both theoretical and competency-based assessments.

Progression

Pathway for trainees who need to top up level 3 qualifications to enable entry onto a Nursing or Midwifery degree.
