Entry Criteria

The course is ideal for aspiring professionals taking their first step into line management, or those with some experience of managing a team or project to deliver clearly defined outcomes.

The sessions are delivered mainly in English and the session resources are available in English although some resources are available in Welsh.

Delivery

This course is delivered by taught sessions and group work. Collection of evidence and work based learning. (see assessment criteria)

Assessment

End Point Assessment - Learners must gain a minimum of 50% in each of the four assessments in order to pass the overall assessment. They can achieve a grade of either pass (50-59%), merit (60-69%) or distinction (70%+).

20% portfolio of work - a mixture of written documents, audio and video evidence that showcases the professional application of their on-programme learning.

30% online knowledge test - the learner showcases their leadership and management knowledge by answering a series of questions, explaining how they would respond to a range of different scenarios. Assessed via online on-demand testing through the evolve platform.

30% competency based interview - a one-to-one interview with the learner, using structured questions to test their understanding and application of knowledge, and to assess their soft skills, behaviours and personal leadership style.

20% professional discussion - the ILM assessor leads a detailed discussion around the learner’s personal and professional development, looking for clear evidence of focused CPD and how this has been applied to improve their performance in the workplace.

Successful learners can progress to a range of qualifications, including:

● ILM Level 4 Award, Certificate and Diploma in Leadership and Management

● ILM Level 5 Diploma for Leaders and Managers

● ILM Level 5 Award, Certificate and Diploma in Leadership and Management

During the course, you will cover the following;

Knowledge and Skills units as follows;

Leading People - This unit will provide learners with the knowledge of how to effectively lead, support and develop people in the workplace taking into account equality legislation, and the skills needed to effectively lead people, including communication, development of others and managing change.

Managing People - This unit will provide learners with the knowledge of people and team management models, including team dynamics and motivation techniques. Learners will understand HR procedures, legal requirements and a range of performance management techniques, and the skills needed to build and maintain a high performing team

Building Relationships - This unit will provide learners with the knowledge to manage customer and stakeholder relationships, and facilitate cross team working to deliver organisational objectives, and the skills needed to effectively build trust across teams, and build and manage customer relationships.

Communication - This unit will provide learners with the knowledge of different forms of communication. Learners will know how to chair meetings, hold difficult conversations, deliver constructive feedback and understand how to raise concerns, and the skills needed to effectively communicate in a range of situations in a number of different formats

Operational Management - This unit will provide learners with the knowledge of how to manage data, achieve operational/team objectives and effectively manage change within a team, and the skills needed to be able to effectively lead a team in line with organisational strategy and operational plans.

Project Management - This unit will provide learners with knowledge of the project lifecycle and how to successfully deliver a project, and the skills required to effectively deliver a project.

Finance - This unit will provide learners with the knowledge of how to deliver value for money and monitor budgets to control costs and ensure efficiencies, whilst adhering to organisational finance-related governance and compliance, and the skills required to apply governance and compliance requirements to ensure effective budget controls

Combined Knowledge and Skills units as follows;

Self-Awareness - This unit will provide learners with knowledge of the importance of self-awareness and emotional intelligence, along with the skills needed to improve performance through feedback.

Management of Self - This unit will provide learners with knowledge and skills required to effectively plan and manage their own personal development and workload

Problem Solving and Decision Making - This unit will provide learners with knowledge and skills required to effectively solve problems and make informed decisions
