Course Description
This practical, one-day course provides essential skills for maintaining and diagnosing air source (ASHP) and ground source (GSHP) heat pump systems, with content aligned to MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) maintenance standards.
Designed for both qualified installers and professionals from plumbing, heating, and low-carbon backgrounds, the course builds understanding of heat pump operation, fault-finding techniques, and maintenance best practice. Through hands-on tasks and live system scenarios, learners will gain confidence in servicing and troubleshooting modern heat pump systems — an increasingly vital skill as the UK transitions to net-zero heating.
Whether you're new to heat pumps or looking to refresh your skills, this course offers a solid foundation for further progression into diagnostics and retrofit qualifications
Entry Criteria
There is no requirement to hold an existing ASHP or GSHP qualification to enrol.
However, learners should have:
● A working knowledge of wet central heating systems
● Basic understanding of electrical and mechanical systems
● Practical experience in heating, plumbing, building services, or renewables
This course is suitable for:
● Heat pump installers and service engineers
● Gas/oil engineers transitioning to low-carbon technologies
● Maintenance professionals looking to meet MCS compliance
● Candidates preparing for Level 3 diagnostics or retrofit training
Delivery
This course is delivered in-person over 1 full day (approx. 6–7 hours) at one of our CIST centres. It includes:
● Tutor-led classroom sessions
