    This is a part-time qualification where a learner is expected to undertake their own direct studies.

    The Level 3 qualification is divided up into 2 parts. The Children and Young People Level 2 core (which is theory-based) requires completion of 5 knowledge based units, you will then need to undertake 3 case studies and 1 multiple choice test at a college site to pass the L2 Children and Young People Core qualification. Successful completion of the Core will allow you to progress to the Level 3 Children and Young People Practice qualification. It is possible just to undertake the Level 2 Children and Young People theory element of the qualification.

Course Description

This qualification is required for learners to work in specific job roles within the health and social care sector as set out in Social Care Wales Qualification Framework for Social care and Child care

The Level 3 Health and Social Care: Practice (Children and Young people) qualification will enable learners to develop and demonstrate their knowledge, understanding, behaviours, skills and practice within a health and social care setting.

Learners must be in employment in either a residential school, work as a foster carer, or work in a specialist childcare centre.

Entry Criteria

  • Be contracted to a minimum of 16 hours per week.
  • Your employer must be able to meet the QCF criteria.
  • You must have adequate WEST (Wales Essential Skills Toolkit) results.
  • All places are subject to satisfactory interview

Delivery

The Level 2 Children and Young People Core will be delivered through online teaching sessions offered during the day/twilight sessions to meet the requirements of your work patterns.

Online monthly meetings with your assessor.

Level 3 Children and Young People Practice

  • Observations, direct learning from the individual, professional discussions, and whiteness testimonies from the employer.
  • Reflections of your working practices will need to be completed as well as preparing for your observations at the setting through structured tasks.
  • Attendance of college-based 'Essential Skills Qualifications' (ESQ) may be required.

Assessment

  • Written work, observations, and discussions.
  • Completion of a portfolio of evidence (preferably electronic)
  • Exam – to include 3 Case study tests and 1 multiple choice test for the Level 2 Children and Young People Core.

Progression

It is possible to progress form a level 3 to a level 4 then 5 (providing in a senior position within the organisation).
