Course Description
ABBE Level 3 Domestic Energy Assessor Qualification
Ready to launch your career as a Domestic Energy Assessor (DEA)? This nationally recognised qualification opens the door to producing Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) for existing homes—an essential role in improving the energy efficiency of UK housing. Once qualified, you’ll be eligible to register with an official Accreditation Scheme and start working as a certified DEA.
What to Expect:
Over the course of three interactive tutor led classroom days, delivered on alternate weeks, you'll gain the practical skills needed to assess a wide range of domestic properties and generate EPCs in line with government regulations. You’ll work through two guided EPC assessments during the training, covering different property types and ages to give you a well-rounded experience.
Upon on completion of the tutor led sessions, you'll complete three additional EPC assessments independently, forming part of your assessed portfolio. This hands-on requirement ensures you’re confident and capable of carrying out real-world energy assessments.
Important: These three test cases must be sourced by you and meet the ABBE property matrix, which will be included with your course materials.
After the Tutor-Led Sessions:
Your learning doesn’t stop when the three days of tutor-led, classroom-based sessions end. You'll continue with self-paced study, including assignments and portfolio submission, all within the six-month access period for Elmhurst’s RdSAP software. Once your portfolio is completed and approved, you’ll receive your ABBE Level 3 Certificate and can apply to join any major DEA Accreditation Scheme.
Note: To apply for official DEA accreditation after certification, you’ll need a basic disclosure certificate (DBS/CRB) dated within the last three years.
