The aim of Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol is to work with universities and Further Education colleges (including Work Based Learning) in order to provide more opportunities for students to study in the medium of Welsh and use more Welsh socially.

The Grŵp has two Branch Officers; Sara Davies and Nia Haf Lewis. Their priority is to increase the current Welsh provision and arrange a variety of activities and events, (within courses and extra-curricular) to support and encourage the use of the Welsh language socially. Both strive to increase the presence of Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol in the Grŵp and collaborate with staff and students to share ideas and good practice. The Branch Officers are the first point of contact between the Coleg Cymraeg and the Grŵp to ensure that the voice and opinions of staff and students are heard and acted upon.

The background of Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol

The Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol was established in 2011. Since its establishment, the Coleg has been planning and supporting Welsh-medium Higher Education provision in universities across Wales. Following a review of the activities held by the Coleg in 2016/17 at the request of the Welsh Government, the Coleg has extended its activities to the post-16 sector, covering Further Education and Apprenticeships.

The Coleg aims to collaborate with providers to secure and develop more Welsh-medium and bilingual study opportunities for learners, students and trainees in Wales.

More information about the Coleg can be found on our website - http://www.colegcymraeg.ac.uk/en/

What is a Branch?

The branches are an essential part of Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol work as well as Welsh medium developments in the universities and colleges of further education. The aim of the branches is to support the work of the Coleg and act as a local point of contact for students and staff. Grŵp Llandrillo Menai is in the process of creating its own 'Branch' by autumn 2020 with a cross section of staff and students across the Grŵp.

Further Education and Apprenticeship Ambassadors

The Coleg has a Further Education and Apprenticeship Ambassadors scheme. The aim of the scheme is to secure a network of ambassadors across Welsh further education institutions to promote the opportunities available to use Welsh in their college and study bilingually. Further Education Colleges are entitled to up to three ambassadors but at least one of the ambassadors is required to study in the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol's priority areas of Health and Care, Childcare or Public Services. There is also a specific scheme for the ambassadors in the apprenticeship sector.

These are Grŵp Llandrillo Menai's first Further Education Ambassadors. They support the Branch Officers work and encourage their peers to study and socialize in Welsh, whatever their linguistic ability. To find out more about our Ambassadors or if you would like to apply to be part of this national scheme in the future, visit our social media pages.
