Many of the courses are developed in consultation with employers, to equip learners with the skills and
knowledge that employers require and to make the progression into employment easier.
Our qualifications give you a thorough grounding in areas such as multimedia, networking, programming and
computer games development. They will give you the finest opportunities to enter the career of your dreams.
These include: Computer Animator; Computer Programmer; Multimedia Producer; Network Administrator; Software
Developer; Systems Analyst and Web Designer.
The Computing and Media department has secured partnerships with some of the world's most successful electronics
and gaming brands. It has been registered as both Xbox and Nintendo developers, which is a possible first for
any college or university in the UK! It is also part of Sony Interactive Entertainment's global academic
programme - PlayStation®First.
Due to huge demand, the college group recently announced that it was offering an A-level-equivalent qualification
in Esports! Learners will be taught this course within the brand new £120,000, state-of-the-art Virtual Reality
Suite at the college’s Rhos-on-Sea campus.
As competitive video games continue to integrate into popular culture, total Esports’ viewership is expected to
leap from 454 million in 2019 to 646 million in 2023, per insider intelligence estimates.*
Esports is part of a multi-billion pound worldwide industry with no physical barriers, and this innovative
qualification will afford you with real career prospects in the burgeoning UK market, as well as gaining access
to global industries in the US, Asia and Europe! As a new co-owner of an Esports business, even David Beckham is
getting in on the act!
The Esports course provided by the college group is backed and supported by the British Esports association and
we are part of the British Esports Championship. Grŵp Llandrillo Menai even has its own Esports team called
Llandrillo Dragons which you can become a member of!
As a student within the Computing department, you will have access to top-of-the-range gaming consoles, VR/AR
(Hololens, Oculus Rift), 3D printers, Wacom graphics tablets, computer hardware and software labs. You will also
be using state-of-the-art PCs capable of running technical industry software including Maya, Unreal, Unity, Game
Maker, Animate, Microsoft Visual Studio, Python, App Inventor, Lego Mindstorms and the Adobe Master Suite.
Networking students have access to extensive online materials and a network simulator from Cisco. Programming and
Networking students also have access to free legal copies of key Microsoft software through the Imagine
programme.
Obtaining experience in a real-work environment is also a key consideration. As well as having full access to the
industry standard, in-house training facilities, local and national work placements on major projects with
recognisable employers such as TT Games and Pixel Knights, provide opportunities for learners to develop crucial
employability skills.
IT industries are on the up: UK technology workers’ average salary increased by 13% in 2019 to reach around
£74,000 a year. The UK also recorded the highest salary rise worldwide for technology workers in 2019,
outstripping other tech hotspots such as San Francisco and New York.**
