Exceptional exam results celebrated at Coleg Llandrillo

Learners across Coleg Llandrillo are celebrating after hundreds of learners studying A Level and Level 3 vocational programmes received their results, with top grades increasing yet again this year.

A level learners at the College’s Rhos-on-Sea and Rhyl campuses achieved an overall pass rate of 98.5%, with more than 80% attaining A* to C grades. Nearly 20% of all learners attained the highest A* or A grades.

Vocational learners also achieved outstanding results, with nearly 20% gaining the highest grades possible: Distinction* or Distinction grades.

These excellent results will enable learners to go on to study at prestigious Universities across the UK, including Russell Group universities such as Cardiff University, University of Birmingham, University of Leeds, University of Liverpool, University of Manchester, University of Nottingham, University of Sheffield and University of Warwick.

The College has also seen an increase in learners choosing to continue their studies at universities in Wales, as well as progressing onto higher education courses at the college, onto an apprenticeship or directly into employment.

Paul Flanagan, Principal of Coleg Llandrillo, said: “Coleg Llandrillo learners have achieved exceptional results yet again this year, with A*-A grades, A*-E grades and Distinction profiles increasing on last year.

“I am immensely proud of every learner for their hard work, particularly given the challenging circumstances they have faced. I am equally proud of our dedicated staff, whose unwavering support has helped our learners realise their potential, regardless of their background or circumstances.”

A Level learner successes:

Rhyl campus student, Fathima Fairoos, achieved an outstanding A* in Biology, A in Chemistry and B in Physics. She now plans to go on to study Medicine. Fathima said:

“The Rhyl Sixth has felt more like a family, with everyone supporting one another every day. My tutors, especially, have helped and encouraged me throughout my time here and always pushed me to do my best.”

Also from Rhyl campus, Joseph Steel achieved AAB for Chemistry, Geography and Mathematics. Joseph plans to study for a BA in International Relations in London and said:

“Completing my A levels at Coleg Llandrillo has been an unforgettable experience; I've had an extremely fun and enriching time studying with fantastic tutors and incredible peers who have all aided me in my studies and growth.”

Maya Oakes studied at the Rhos-on-Sea campus and achieved an A in Art, a B in Photography and an A in Graphics. Maya will be going to the University of Salford to study Graphic Design. Maya said:

“I’ve made some of my best friends in college and grown a lot as a person, gaining more confidence along the way. My teachers were incredible and supported me through my entire time at college. Looking back at my time in Coleg Llandrillo, it was one of my best decisions to study here.”

Level 3 Vocational learner successes:

Jac Williams, who studied the Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science at the Rhos-on-Sea campus, has two reasons to celebrate; not only did he achieve a D*, D, D in his final results, securing him a place at Bangor University to study Policing, but he’s also been offered a 2-year contract with RGC! He said:

“Deciding to come to Coleg Llandrillo was one of the best choices I’ve made. Ever since I’ve been here, I've been really happy.”

Evie Walliker, who also attended Rhos-on-Sea campus, achieved a D*DD for her Level 3 Extended Diploma in Business. Since leaving college, Evie has secured a full-time position in administration:

“I feel well prepared for this next chapter thanks to everything I learned during my studies,” said Evie. “My time studying at Coleg Llandrillo has been both enjoyable and rewarding. The course helped me build confidence, develop practical skills, and prepare for my future career. I am thankful for the support and guidance I received from my tutors along the way,” she continued.

Rhyl campus student Zack Arnold achieved a D*DD in Level 3 Extended Diploma in Engineering. Jack plans to move on to a Degree Apprenticeship. Jack praised the staff at college, who he said, “Pushed me out of my comfort zone to compete in competitions.” During his time at Rhyl campus, Zack competed in Welsh Inspiring Skills and the 2025 WorldSkills National Finals. Jack added:

“I decided college was best for me due to the hands-on experience it provides. You gain experience in many different fields of engineering, rather than only focusing on just one. You get to choose what you enjoy further into your education, and that option of career paths allowed me to choose one I enjoyed significantly, and then focus on those skills not only at college, but in my free time.”
