Coleg Llandrillo welcomes new recruits at Football Academy pre-season taster day

The session gave attendees an opportunity to meet and get to know other students, find out more about the Academy, see the sporting facilities at the college and train with Colwyn Bay Football coaches on the campus’s 3G pitch.

Coleg Llandrillo launched its new Football Academy earlier this May in partnership with Colwyn Bay Football Club. The Academy is open to all prospective male students aged 16 -19 regardless of previous club affiliation, with a dedicated female pathway set to launch in 2027-28.

Mike Wilde, Director of Football, Colwyn Bay FC said “The Football Academy at Coleg Llandrillo will deliver a comprehensive package including expert coaching, strength and conditioning, performance analysis, and access to top class facilities. Through its collaboration with Colwyn Bay FC, students will benefit from direct links to a progressive football club environment, gaining invaluable exposure to senior football and real world sporting pathways.”

This innovative partnership provides aspiring footballers with a unique opportunity to combine high quality education with elite level training and competitive match experience. The programme is designed to support player development both on and off the pitch, offering students a clear pathway into higher levels of the game while achieving recognised academic qualifications.

This year Grŵp Llandrillo Menai has two teams in the highest tier of the ECFA league. One from Coleg Llandrillo and one from Coleg Menai and Coleg Meirion Dwyfor combined. The new season will kick off on the 16th September when the Coleg Llandrillo squad play Myerscough College on home ground.
