Exceptional exam results celebrated at Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor

The college’s A level learners, based at the Dolgellau and Pwllheli campuses, achieved an overall pass rate of 100%, with nearly 85% attaining A* to C grades and 27% of all A Level results at A* or A grade. Vocational learners also achieved outstanding results, with nearly 30% gaining the highest Distinction* or Distinction grades.

Whether learners have chosen to progress directly to work, apprenticeships or university, these excellent results will enable them to take their next step with confidence. Several will go on to study at prestigious universities, including Russell Group universities. Many learners have chosen to continue their studies at Bangor, Wrexham, Aberystwyth or other universities in Wales, including progressing onto higher education courses at Grŵp Llandrillo Menai.

Dr Siôn Peters-Flynn, Principal of Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor and Coleg Menai, both part of Grŵp Llandrillo-Menai, said: “It’s great to see the all the hard work our learners have put in over the last two years come to fruition today. It’s particularly pleasing to see the strong proportion of high grades for A level and vocational qualifications.

“Fifty-eight percent of our A-level results are at B grade or better, which is above the Wales and UK averages, and 29% of our vocational results are at Distinction* or Distinction. I’m sure our learners will join me in thanking our staff members for the support and guidance they have provided to help them achieve such good results”

A Level Success

Taylor Thomas studied at the Dolgellau campus and achieved an outstanding A* in Mathematics, A* in Physics and A* Further Mathematics. Taylor, who is celebrating his 18th birthday today, will be going to study mathematics at the University of Bristol. Taylor said:

“This is the best 18th birthday present ever. I’d like to say thank you to the college for all the support and encouragement.”

Also at Dolgellau, Brendan Hansford achieved an A grade for The Welsh Baccalaureate, an A for Mathematics, B for Physics and a B in Chemistry. Brendan is now heading to the University of Exeter to study engineering.

Mei Madrun Roberts achieved a fantastic A* in Welsh, A in Sociology and A in Psychology at the Pwllheli campus. Mei, a former pupil at Ysgol Botwnnog, is planning to go to Cardiff University to study Welsh. Mei said:

“I particularly enjoyed the Welsh A Level for the variety of learning within one subject. I was fortunate enough to attend a showing of the Un Nos Ola Leuad theatre production which really brought the study to life.”

Pwllheli campus student, and former Ysgol Eifionydd pupil, Dafydd Gwyn achieved a fabulous A* in Chemistry, C in Biology, and an A in Mathematics. Dafydd said:

“I've had a great time at college, but I'm now ready for the next step, which is Cardiff University to study Medicinal Chemistry."

Level 3 Success

Osian James, a former Ysgol Glan y Môr pupil, achieved a fabulous triple Distinction for his Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport. Osian studied at the Pwllheli campus and his next steps will see him head to Cardiff University to study Sports Coaching.

Aimee Plester (A* A* C) and Seren Wyn Jones (A* A C) both studied Level 3 Health and Social care at Dolgellau campus and are now both going to Bangor University to study Nursing.

Also from Dolgellau campus, Eilyr Williams achieved a fantastic Distinction in his Level 3 Extended Diploma in Engineering.
