Conwy Schools’ Provision Boating Event 2026 Brings Community Together
The Menai Strait set the scene for this year’s Conwy Schools’ Provision Boating Event, where learners proudly showed off the results of a year’s hard work, teamwork and creativity.
Held on Wednesday 25th March, the event brought together two teams of learners from local schools who had spent months designing and building their own boats from scratch as part of their Coleg Llandrillo course. On the day, they finally got to put their boats to the test out on the water—showing off not just their practical skills, but their teamwork too.
It was a brilliant moment seeing all that effort pay off, with both teams successfully launching and navigating their boats. The project gave learners the chance to build real-world skills and confidence along the way.
We were also pleased to welcome the Mayor of Colwyn Bay, Cllr Jo Nuttall, who came along to see the action and meet the learners behind the builds.
There was a great atmosphere on the shoreline, with staff, supporters and members of the community cheering the teams on and celebrating their achievements. It was a fantastic example of what can be achieved when the college and local schools work together.
The Mayor said: “It was fantastic to see the craftsmanship that had gone into producing two incredible, seaworthy vessels. It was great to see the students working as a team, learning lifelong skills.
I understand that some of these youths had overcome their own fears and insecurities to take part in the event. They should be exceptionally proud of their achievements, they all did incredibly well. The staff should also take credit, their patience didn’t go unnoticed. It was lovely to see the knowledge and passion for the sea being passed on to the next generation. I truly had a wonderful day.”
Well done to everyone involved for making the event such a success!
