A hair stylist and two barbers from Coleg Llandrillo have all qualified for the grand final of a nationally renowned professional hairdressing competition which showcases and rewards the nation's best young stylists.

Georgina Louise Monk, 20, from Towyn, near Abergele - who is studying Hairdressing Level 3 at the college's Rhyl campus - has qualified for the national final of the 'Concept Hair Learner of the Year 2021' competition.

Joining Georgina in the final are trainee barbers Kieran Butler and Brandon McGilloway from the college's Rhos-on-Sea campus. 20-year-old Kieran, along with Brandon, 17, who are both from Colwyn Bay, are studying on the Level 2 Barbering course.

Georgina's category was 'Avant-Garde Safari' which was completed on a block due to the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown. She will compete against other qualifiers from across the UK in the final this spring. This year's competition will be held virtually due to the continuing pandemic.

Georgina's tutor Alison Gough - who is also programme leader for Hairdressing Level 3 at the Rhyl campus, said:

Congratulations on Georgina's success in this competition. We are all very proud of her. She is a talented and dedicated student who deserves these plaudits. She had a totally professional attitude during, and leading up to the competition.

Wendy Jones, tutor to the two successful barbers, said:

Well done to both of them; they deserve all the accolades. Kieran made it through to the final last year also, and I took Brandon with us to watch as I was hoping that he would enter this year. Brandon came to college from school last year and has progressed on to the Level 2 Barbering course this year. They have both learnt so much, have excellent barbering skills and have regular hours of work in local barbers.

The finalists will have to take photographic evidence of their work before and after, and then create a vision board to accompany their entry and take a photo of that too. The entries will then be judged, six shortlisted finalists in each category will be chosen and the winners announced at the Virtual Awards Evening on 26th April.
