Following the recent appearance of Miriam Jones, Art, Design and Media Technician and part-time lecturer at Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor in Pwllheli, on S4C's programme Y Stiwdio Crafftau during a competition to create a bench to look at the stars, Miriam has been invited to exhibit the bench at Yr Ysgwrn, home of the poet Hedd Wyn, by the Snowdonia National Park.
Miriam Jones said.
"The National Park's brief for the programme was to create a bench to look at the stars. As a college lecturer, I was very keen to include the ideas of our students on the foundation Art course in Pwllheli. The students went on to research the constellations, and found a poem about the stars by Hedd Wyn, "The Blotyn Du", which is included on the bench."
"Some of the students went on to create drawings of the constellations which are etched on the finished bench, which is great."
The bench is made of oak, with strips of plastic woven like a blanket around the back, to create the idea of a safe nest while sitting on the bench to watch the stars.
Bryn Hughes-Parry, Assistant Principal of Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor, said.
'To see the work of Miriam and our talented students on our Foundation Art course being recognized in this way is incredible. Yr Ysgwrn is a centre of national and international importance, so we can learn about the horrors of war and the value of peace and justice."
"Seeing the work of one of our lecturers and students on display there will be a source of pride for us as a college. Well done indeed."
