Covid-19 restrictions enforced on the public meant that BA Fine Art graduates at Coleg Menai's Parc Menai campus could no longer access the studio spaces where they would normally develop their pieces with all of the equipment and space they needed.

Not to be defeated, students set up studio spaces in their homes, sheds and even used outdoor spaces, partaking in regular meetings with their tutors using Google hangouts, and sharing their work on Facebook and Instagram.

Lecturer and BA Fine Art coordinator Helen Jones said,

Every graduate Fine Art Exhibition is unique; it is the culmination of three years of development, resulting in a group exhibition that showcases personal endeavour, talent and ambition. This year what unites all student shows is that they have been produced in the year of the lockdown; the Covid 19 crisis presented new challenges to courses never seen before. The final exhibition module was suddenly profoundly changed; homeworking, online tutorials and group meetings replaced college studio work, the annual transformation of the studios from workspaces to student exhibition did not happen.

She added,

It is a credit to this group of students that they carried on making work. They adapted, they improvised in home workspaces, clearing garages and lofts to make work, and visualised final displays through drawings, photography and different forms of digital media. This web-based exhibition proves that they did not compromise or lose energy or ambition. It presents individual journeys that have arrived at the destination nevertheless, their vision and drive continued and each artistic identity was realised. We would like to congratulate the graduates of 2020, united in the difficulties they faced, unique in the presentation of their individual works in this show.

Chief Executive Officer of Grŵp Llandrillo Menai, Dafydd Evans said,

This is just one example of our ability as an organisation to adapt to the new scenario in which we find ourselves. We have learnt much in last few weeks and our prospective students for this September can be confident that they are joining a college well-versed and prepared for the delivery of a blended learning experience, partly on campus and partly using digital technology.
